As you might guess, that gives the 2600 series considerably less horsepower though at a lower price and lower power consumption. While the flagship 2900 XT architecture features 320 stream processors, 16 texture units and 16 ROPs, the 2600 architecture (for both 2600 XT and the 2600 Pro) is powered by 120 stream processors, 8 texture units and 4 ROPs. Here is the 2600 GPU in its block diagram glory. The architecture of the Radeon HD 2600 XT is much like that of the 2900 XT, though with fewer stream processors, etc. This could be considered the “flagship” of AMD’s mid-range graphics cards as it has the highest price and fastest gaming performance of the new AMD cards introduced today. You might consider it a pre-req for this article. It has all same block diagrams you’ll see below for the flagship cards as well as more detail on the stream processors, texture units, memory controller and more. For now, let’s take a look at each of the cards on the chopping block today.įor some background on the architecture and technology behind the AMD Radeon HD 2xxx series of graphics cards, you’ll definitely want to check out my original review of the HD 2900 XT from May. This does leave a conspicuous gap between the 2600 XT and the 2900 XT, but we’ll touch on that later on down the road. The cards that we are reviewing here today are mid-range to budget priced video cards prices top out at the $150 range for the Radeon HD 2600 XT. After a six week wait, we can finally do so. We shared most of the technical information on the remainder of the Radeon HD 2xxx series then, but what we couldn’t tell you about yet was the performance. At the time though, only the flagship ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT card was made available to compete with the top cards from NVIDIA’s 8-series of GPUs. In mid-May AMD announced the entirety of a new lineup of graphics cards based on the R600 architecture. We take then all for a whirl and see where they end up.

Multi-Projection, VR Ready, G-SYNC, Vulkan, Multi Monitor This means that the Max-Q GTX 1050 Ti is also suited for thin and light laptops. The power consumption of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with Max-Q design is rated at 40 to 46 Watt and therefore a lot lower than a regular GTX 1050 Ti for laptops (53 Watt).

Therefore, the GPU is most suited for Full HD and high quality settings for games of 2016. Nvidia states that the Max-Q variant should be about 10 to 15% slower than a regular GTX 1050 Ti for laptops.
The performance of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti can vary quite a lot depending on the cooling performance of the laptop. A full list of improvements and the new Pascal desktop GPUs is available in our dedicated Pascal architecture article. The GP107 chip is manufactured in a 14 nm FinFET process at Samsung and offers a number of new features, including support for DisplayPort 1.4 (ready), HDMI 2.0b, HDR, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) as well as improved H.265 video de- and encoding (PlayReady 3.0).

The drivers for the Max-Q version were optimized for efficiency (and not performance only for Max-Q models), there are optimized voltage converters for 1V operation, high-end cooling methods, and a 40 dB limit for the fan noise (with clock adjustments to ensure this at all times). The clock is not the only difference compared to the regular GTX 1050 Ti though. Contrary to the faster models, the GTX 1050 uses the GP107 chip, which is manufactured in a 14 nm process at Samsung.
The Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti with Max-Q design is a power efficient mainstream GPU for laptops based on the Pascal architecture and was announced in January 2017. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q ► remove from comparison
